What is dog training?

It's impossible to cover the complexity of f canine training and behaviour in a few paragraphs.Lots of people have experience of dogs and being a canine caretaker.The area and topics are subjective and can be open to different interpretation.

Since before the 1960's we have been carrying out scientific research in relation to canine behaviour, and indeed modern training methods and philosophy is largely based upon these findings.

Classical and operant conditioning are the bases of modern day training techniques.

But - WHAT DOES THIS MEAN!

Puppy development

Dogs are sentient beings who interestingly learn in very similar way to humans in the early years of life.

There are other factor in canine development which good have a bearing on behaviour as they grow.

There are four key stages of development which all have an influence on how your dog grows and psychologically develops.

If we start by getting to know our pup, gently exposing to new experiences, introduce foundation behaviours as a build for life, setting boundaries by establishing your fair leadership, think about ways we can offer mental stimulation, then our relationship will be off to a great start.

Forward thinking will help you set your dog up for success around your lifestyle.

Adolescent dogs

As your dog grows they will go through changes based on their experiences of the world.Individual characters will become more visible, breed traits and characteristics, preferences for environments and interaction will have a bearing on their behaviour.

Hormones will start to influence behaviour.

Developing your understanding of your dog will help decide on your approach to training and exposure to different environments.

This will help you decide on what contingency you may need to mange and keep your dog and others safe.

Dogs are't considered fully grown adults until they are around two years old. In the case of large breeds, physically this growth continues until around three years old.

If you've established the foundations in behaviour and training, then this is great time to build on training enabling you to set your dog up around your lifestyle.

Ongoing training and development

Training and development of our dogs should ideally be ongoing throughout their life span.

Training is great for mental stimulation, and dogs love to have a job.

Canine behavioural issues - crises managment

Being the sentient beings dogs are they can ether be born with, or develop issues surrounding behaviour.

We need to assess various areas throughout development and during life span to fully understand what we are witnessing and dealing with.

Dogs are instinctual, this means they will behave in the moment. If balance and grounding can't be found there are often adverse reactions in lots of cases.

Or, in extreme cases a dog will completely disconnect from their environment and shut down.

There are lots of variables, and it is ultimately down to our management and care through fair leadership which will guide our dogs.
